Yolanda Hairs Bham says
It was a big surprise.but I think she has reasons( people were angry)
Anyway choice is personal
Riff Spencer says
Every woman has the right to wear her hair however she wants, in whatever way makes her happy
Courtney Gray says
Who said she didnt have the right tho
BlackHairInformation.com says
Actually the study that people keep on quoting about fibroid tumors only proved that they are more common in women of African descent. There was no connection made between relaxers and the tumors. Just saying.
Riff Spencer says
Last time I checked nobody, sometimes I’ve noticed that people have strongly varying opinions on natural versus relaxed, I think we should all just embrace our individuality
Shana Smith says
Dani Adams proves that ignorance is bliss.
Pattie Armstead says
2 snaps
Tywana Beaver says
I don’t see how hair can be healthy after adding chemicals to it. I really don’t. Then again, I’m no rocket scientist either
Sierra Holloman says
Here comes the natural hair dictators
Shawnta Coleman says
Lol you must have some type of ignorance because ” U have NO idea how NOT ignorant I am.” Is not a proper sentence.
Tywana Beaver says
Why don’t you try answering that question. That is a legitimate question. How is relaxed hair healthy after adding chemicals? I have a texturizer in my hair right now, and I know my hair has not been healthy since. Doesn’t mean I don’t maintain it.
Tywana Beaver says
All the know-it-alls commenting, but really don’t know anything at all .. Smh. And you live life like that
Dani Adams says
You, madam, presently have absolutely no concept of my intellectual prowess… Better?
Lynn Mitchell says
Your comment makes you seem like an immature bratty idiot.
Dani Adams says
^^^So, we’ve met?
Drina Phil says
Blackinfomag…. Actually it is. Ive done studies and relaxers are actually one of the reasons….
By the way this post is very ignorant
Pattie Armstead says
Riff you’re right…when someone who’s natural get a relaxer normally the natural hair community have a lot of negative comments about them.
Jenice Mckenzie says
So are you a troll Dani? Grow up ladies!
Dina Fagan says
Girl please I am one yr from 50 and I sure in the hell ain’t never had any and don’t have any fibroid tumors!
Lucia Yassin says
Sagittarius Felisha That’s a dumb thing to say. When ppl say natural, they mean they aren’t putting in something that deep fries their hair to make it something that it is not. Like European straight hair. Yes we ARE natural if we are rocking the exact texture of hair we were born with. Further more, many of us naturals use only natural chemical free products on our hair. So uh, yea…
Ama Nicole Major says
What the hell is wrong with you??????? It’s her hair. Get over it. That was a terrible thing to say regardless to what this lady does.
Jaelyn Proctor says
I think of relaxers like a coke. The brown dye in coke has been scientifically proven to raise your risk of getting cancer. Are people gonna stop drinking coke with that info out there?? NO! Because having a coke once in a while does not mean you will get cancer, or get fat, or have stained teeth, or mean you live an unhealthy lifestyle. Just like relaxers, I agree they’re not healthy, but they’re not that bad either. As long as you are knowledgable about relaxers, hair, and not using them every four weeks, you should be ok.
Olive Ahamzie says
If nothing bothers you as you CLAIM. Then you should talk about it….am right?.
keep your nasty comments to yourself and act like you are not perturbed! Cos you are disgusting!
Olive Ahamzie says
Shouldn’t *
Deborah Williams says
I have a relaxer after 4 years and my hair is healthy and strong as hell…
Smile Seven says
Boom!
Annette Hardin says
What I don’t understand is why people get so bent out of shape about it? it’s your hair you can do what you want to it, with it, for it.
Asha Jamia says
Unfortunately, Fibroid tumors run in my family genetically
MEshell Green says
It was said that what you put on your skin and what you put on your scalp penetrates deep into your pores and eventually can cause problems. NOW I KNOW THAT IS A RUN ON LOL BUT NOT IN SCHOOL.
MEshell Green says
That’s why you do not apply relaxer to the scalp.
Faith Givens says
Lol that’s like saying enjoy your heart attack from all the fried/fast food you eat. To each is own.
Faith Givens says
I went to school with this young lady didn’t know she was famous!
Kelly Hamilton says
bol
Ashley RaisingMen Watkins says
I wouldn’t say famous popular maybe
Faith Givens says
Ok I didn’t even know she had a YouTube channel.
Carmesha Holmes says
Yup she do, i watch them all the time her hair done grow really good
Faith Givens says
I’ll have to check them out I definitely want my hair to grow more. Are her books a good buy?
Lia Daniels says
Her braiding videos are very, very, very detailed, but they help
Pam Hubbard says
Yes she is awesome
Mavis Butt says
Her reason makes sense.
Pattie Armstead says
I went natural twice…I’m over it.
Ronda Lafaye says
I relaxed in two natural is not for every one
Kristen Nicole Thompson says
I have the same issues she had as a natural really want a perm but I colored instead and still ugh!!!!
Natia Shim Thomas says
Her voice urks the shit out of me that’s why I don’t watch her tutorials.
Gwendolynn Smith says
And she talks too much for my short attention span. She might have good information but I don’t have patience to listen makes me feel like I’m back in school.
Gladiola Ricola says
Seems like she tries too hard to be funny.
Kiauna Monet Mason says
I have 4c too and I have to really put in with. I’m thinking about a texturizer
Diona Denise Stampley says
She sounds like a robot to me and that’s why I can’t watch her lol
Camille Angelique Johnson says
It’s her hair, whatever makes her happy
Lovette Hodge says
I think she looks better on the left, but mostly because she has pretty makeup and a pretty shirt. She is beautiful either way.
Cassie McDonald says
It makes alot of since.im not mad at her.at all.being that ive been natural 1 1/2 yrs.i did the big chop with my 4c hair it was sooooo easy to style my hair while short.but like she said as time goes by n the length starts growing longer it does take more time.it nw takes me 2hrs at the most or longer depending on my mood n style which is soooo time consuming. Im a single mom of 3 under the age of 6.two girls who have 4b.and 4a hair texture. It is a task.i sometimes do wish I would perm my hair to cut dwn on the whole hair doing process.
Nataucha Gray says
Keep it short, problem solved
Tracy McCoy says
She’s beautiful either way, I just love her high cheekbones
Kenya Greene says
I stop relaxing my hair because of breakage my hair grows well with braids but since I dont have no money to keep it braided and job I do is flat iron it.
Eve Gamanya says
I relaxed my hair after 2years being natural…Had problems with detangling,my hair had stopped growing and I was going through postpartum shedding which had left me with bold patches…Had to cut most of my hair and then relaxed to cover the patches and I had less shedding…I love my hair better and don’t see myself going back to natural
Kerimah Rogers says
Good for you Hun. You don’t owe anybody an explanation as to what you do to YOUR hair!
Sagittarius Felisha says
Great for you……
Brittany Nelson says
I’ve been debating about going back to relaxers myself being natural takes to much time , with washing and rolling and twisting …… Hmmmm I might be on the road back relaxers myself
Nikeisha Lovelace says
I had the same debate I did it but I only do them once a year
Achi Achieng says
I feel u, its not easy.
Meka McDaniel says
I do texturizers in my hair 3 times a yr. My hair is thick Thick THICK…
Kerimah Rogers says
This is the same problem I have ladies that’s why I haven’t gone natural
Ryan Hodge says
Me too but I love being able to wear it curly
Pattie Armstead says
I went back to a relaxer and glad I did. I spent ALOT of money on hair products. I have given alot away and have alot more to give away.
Pattie Armstead says
I went back to a relaxer as well-glad I did.
Kamilah Stapleton says
I hear ha,did the big chop 4 times.still natural now.
Jamila Kelly says
yeah I haven’t had one in about 9 months now and it’s really depressing :/ my hair is really kinky so it’s not easy and I just don’t have the time or effort needed to learn the opposite of what I’ve been doing for like 18 years. I just also don’t have the money to get it relaxed so I’m kinda stuck for now ^^;;; buns are my best friend right now
Crystal Cummings says
Sometimes I think about getting a relaxer again. I am going to find a professional to take care of my natural hair because it does take a great deal of work.
Chevy Genous says
Why Brittany??? Your hair is gorgeous!!!
Tonja Small says
Have you thought about straightening it Ms. Brittany and wear your bob?
Brittany Nelson says
Yes I have but it doesn’t get as straight as I want it to get .
Gabrielle Pittman says
What about a sew in. . ,Not trying to talk you out of it lol but, it’s my temporary fix or a wig lol
Sonia Wilhelmina Barrett says
Have you ever thought about protective styling like a sew in, box braids, twists, or faxu locs. wearing the protective style for 6 to 8 weeks then taking a 2 week break in between weaves. Just thought I should mention it.
Eve Gamanya says
People do have reasons of how they wear their hair…You should feel comfortable with your hair..Being natural is hard work and you invest a lot of money in hair products
Yolana Green says
Do whatever makes you feel comfortable & sexy.
Faye Williams says
I’m considering going back to perms as well, I big chopped last July, and I don’t know what this is on top of my head but this ish is serious. Smh #thisishneedsaliontamer
India Logan Heyward says
Lol,
Flow Lis says
You got me rolling!!!
Faye Williams says
Y’all laughing but this ish on my head, will snatch the comb and pop with you it! What comes after 4c?
Edward Juanita Harrison says
Lol
Ryan Hodge says
Lmao
Stacia M Jemison says
Well it’s your hair on your head. Just saying. No judgement do what works for you. Good luck.
Kelly Hamilton says
i dont fault her for relaxing, i just think the reasons were crap. Because to me it just sound like giving up… So some people may so ok if i gotta detangle to long im jus gonna use chemicals instead. Or the hole over manipulation because of making videos??? i thought that was crap because look at all the other bloggers ( 4c bloggers included), growing long natural hair even though they over manipulate and try 100 different things…. like i said, her preference on relaxing, but dnt give bad excuses
Pri Ye says
it’s awesome she shares her reasons… but quite frankly it’s no one’s business but hers what she does with her hair… There is such a thing as healthy relaxed hair, same goes with unhealthy natural hair. She looks gorgeous as always
Jenny JackJack says
I like her hair relaxed! I totally support her decision !
Paul Bayley says
Should have just become a natural flat iron, kept the hair healthy and whole .
Beady Bead says
good for her. it’s her hair.
Torkwase Burts says
Because the struggle is real. I feel her pain.
Danielle Thompson says
Natural hair ain’t for everybody!!! Some people need to stick to what they know and get a relaxer!!
Kerimah Rogers says
Thank you Danielle
Kim Mosley says
I’m natural, and I can agree. When my hair was short, it was a breeze. Wash and go. But in the winter, that was a no no. And now that my hair is longer and soooo thick, it takes almost a whole day to wash and style. I’m at the point where I want to cut it and leave it short. I do kinda miss the relaxer days though. Lol.
LaSeana Wilcox says
I’m tempted to do the same but I loved her YouTube videos on natural hair.
Faith Givens says
I really wish someone made a blog for people who relax their hair… so many natural blogs. If anyone knows of any drop them in the reply comments please!
Tyiece Jermaine says
Hairlicious and tomes edition
Faith Givens says
Thanks!
Laura Roberts says
YouTube ulovemegz and prettywitty77. Both relaxed and have very long hair.
Kim Mosley says
The struggle is definitely real!
Kay Dub says
4c, me too. It’s hard and my hair grew w/perms
Courtney Gray says
Why not just keep it straightened? Good luck because before u know it ur hair gon get stuck at neck length like the typical black girl.
Rivian Jones says
Lol that’s not true. The typical black girl huh? Smh
Tiffany Alisha says
If people knew the health problems relaxer chemicals cause I’m sure it wouldn’t be an option.. Relaxers can cause fibroid tumors..
Cherona Mckinney Jones says
So can the things we eat. .. It’s people’s choice
Tywana Beaver says
Why would you eat things that kill you? Smh .. The logic on this post is beyond trying to understand
Kerimah Rogers says
There’s a lot of things that cause cancer too. I don’t see ya’ll debating that……
Pattie Armstead says
Black hair information responded to someone who said the same thing and it isn’t true…relaxers DO NOT cause fibroids.
Tiffany Alisha says
A study was done in 1993.. It was never released because it would cause the hair industry to crumble. But do what u want..shrugs..smdh
Diona Denise Stampley says
I saw it on Dr. Oz that they do cause fibroid tumors if not done by a professional and the de who was saying it had a perm and hair was died blonde, so honestly I don’t think it’s that much of an issue lol
Brittanny Hardy says
Now if we can only get her to relax on the duck lips
Taheera Naturallyme Muhammad says
Lolololol
Nataucha Gray says
Quack
Ciani Nicole says
What does being natural isn’t for everyone mean? If it grows outta ur head like that it’s for u! There was once a time b4 perms where used. Ppl didn’t even know what a perm was and they wore they’re hair as is. I’m not condemning relaxers. It’s okay if that’s ur preference or desire. It’s just that statement doesn’t make sense to me and ppl say it often.
KeKe Bundage-Terrell says
It means not everyone knows how to deal with natural hair so then no its not for them
Ciani Nicole says
Who else is it for? It’s on THEIR head. U think God meant to give it to someone else. Like oppsie I meant to make u Caucasian.
Gina Payne says
Preach sista! It’s such a shame that black women grow up not knowing how to manage their the way it grows out of our heads. People wana say being natural is hard. Welcome to being Black in America honey. Let’s examine why this lack of education exists and why is chemical alterations the “easiest” way for a black woman
Tywana Beaver says
People have a million and one excuses why they do the things they do. Then to explain why it is they do it, smh, just stop.
Shayla Wardell says
Not everyone knows what to do with it or how to maintain it lol. And some people just don’t prefer it. You were also given leg hair, underarm hair, a mustache and pubic hair…i dont see many women in a rush to keep that.
Blaque Diamondz says
To be honest if you use curling products(pudding, gels, etc.) your hair is not in a natural state. No different than a texturizer/relaxer.
Ciani Nicole says
Shayla Wardell. Actually women didn’t always shave their body hair. B4 the 40s it was extremely uncommon for a women to shave anything. So since the beginning of time till the 40s no shaving. Some men even now still prefer unshaven. The honest assessment of this statement is “I am a Black Woman. I was nvr taught to manage my hair and I FEEL it’s too hard to learn”. The key word is feel bc how hard being natural is, is subjective.
Shayla Wardell says
And I’m sure women didn’t use relaxers before that time either considering it wasn’t invented.
Ciani Nicole says
Blaque Diamondz the concept of the natural movement is not NO PRODUCTS EVER OR ELSE. Just like the holistic person may take medicine. The concept IS accepting ur hair texture. It’s being proud of kinky hair. It’s about not feeling like there is something innately wrong with ur hair. It’s Black girls not wishing they were mixed to hv “good hair”. Besides no naturalista wears gel ALL the time.
Blaque Diamondz says
Well I been relaxer free 15 years so your not teaching me anything. I just get blow outs at times
Ciani Nicole says
Blaque Diamondz. So if u agree with me what was the purpose of ur comment? I’m not even being sassy so pls don’t perceive it that way. I’m just confused.
Sagittarius Felisha says
. For you afro naturalists, technically you all aren’t natural. Do you use oils, conditioners, shampoo, butters, pomades, edge control, etc… those are all chemicals that alter the texture of your hair… now unless you put absolutely nothing on you hair but maybe water then maybe just maybe you can criticize….
Kim Yvette Johnson says
Walking is natural but driving is easier. We don’t always have to do what is natural.
Ciani Nicole says
Kim Yvette Johnson I agree. But that doesn’t rly coincide with the point I was tryna make.
Ciani Nicole says
Kim Yvette Johnson Also driving is killing the planet so maybe we should walk.
Joycelyn Lanae says
Ciani what made me kind of cringe is when people say I love natural hair but they were only able to put up with it for a couple years. If you really love something you wouldn’t be quick to alter it imo. I know women that BCed have a hard time retaining length and they researched and grew their hair out (now they really loved their hair). I always wonder if the person had a loose texture would they have made the same decision.
She couldn’t retain length, but you have a natural hair Bible that doesn’t make sense either. She could have easily spread out her videos instead of constantly messing with her hair and trying to make a buck
Ciani Nicole says
Joycelyn Lanae u know I didn’t think that deep into her rationale and I didn’t know she has a book? Does she? Anyways I too worry when Black women say they can’t b natural. I worry that they are still accepting Eurocentric standards of beauty and rejecting themselves. The rejection may not even be a conscious effort. I don’t say this from a place of judgment bc I too was one of those black woman/girls. I hated my hair texture growing up. I cried about it. I dated White men n my early 20s so if I had a daughter she could hv “good hair” unlike me. Now that I’ve learned to take care of it I love it and my Black husband loves it too. Embracing my hair made me more proud to b Black than ever b4. I was completely astonished when I realized I could wear the hair on my head outside and feel “FINE”!
Chevy Genous says
Sagittarius you do know that there are all natural products out there right?? Not all products have chemicals In them.
Dreame Wood says
Just because some black women relaxes, weaves, braid, flat iron, curls, crimps, waves, wigs, or whatever they like to do to their hair, does not equate to “I hate my hair” maybe it just means they like variety or they prefer their hair straight.. I believe women can do whatever the hell they want to do, but I think a lot of naturalistas try to make it seem as though everybody else don’t love themselves, lol and then say “you trying to look Caucasian” when all Caucasian people don’t have straight or even desirable hair..
Diona Denise Stampley says
Only thing I took from this statement (I’m natural) is why say “natural hair is not for you”, if it’s something that grew out of your head… Maybe find a different way of saying it… Maybe say, my natural hair is too much to handle so I had to get the creamy crack, because saying its not for you is kind of offensive.
Charla McLeod DeVoe says
IMO when a person say natural is not for them they mean they do not know how to manage or they do not have the time. Myself included. My daughter and I are new to this natural journey and I have NO CLUE what I am doing. I’m not brain washed to believe that relaxed hair is better but I don’t know another way. The journey is even harder when you don’t know how to do/manipulate hair (twist, braid, or plait). Although I have not reverted back to the relaxer; I do feel natural is not for my daughter and me.
Ciani Nicole says
Diona Denise Stampley yes something like that. I’m just saying be more honest about what it is. U can even say I tried being natural and I didn’t feel pretty. I tried being natural and the maintenance was more work than wearing weave so I gave up. Last night my husband goes i don’t understand how Black women can say being natural is hard with all the shit y’all did and do to y’all head even b4 this push to be natural. He said think about how long micros take, the 2 layer cornrows, the Mohawk braids, the cost of the Brazilian sew-in weave. I couldn’t help but think he made a good point. Hair has been a tedious task for us since we got off the boat here. I’m not offended by the statement I just want us to get away from the concept that “White type hair is the good shit”, leaving us to feel like there is no beauty in 4 type hair or that their is something wrong with it.
Minkah Allen says
It’s your hair, do you!
Shawnta Coleman says
Lmbo cray cray not everyone gets them.
Diane C. Dejean says
Why is this an issue?
Marquessadilla Tacos says
RIP Breanna Rutter 🙁
Vallencia Hand says
It’s her hair she could do what she wants with it
Kimberly Smith says
After growing my hair out natually for four years, I broke down and put a relaxer on my hair, my hair fell out within a month. I then grew my hair out again for three years and said okay , these edges with all this sweating is making this hard, I’ll just do my edges, followed the directions to a “T” (timer and all) MY HAIR FELL OUT AGAIN! the last relaxer one was a kid perm… I’m done. I use to have mild relaxers on my hair growing up and my hair never FELL out, but I think because I waited so long in between applications it just too much. If you can avoid the hair abuse please do.
Latoya McCoy says
Same thing happened to me. I relaxed twice and my hair fell out. My scalp said “No”!
La Toya Armani says
Try a texturizer instead
Sagittarius Felisha says
Try texlaxing 8 min tops, u must let that relaxer stay on for 1 hr…
Kimberly Smith says
Sagittarius Felisha I would’ve burned a hole in my head if I left on for an hour lol, it starting burning after 10mins the first time…
Kimberly Smith says
LA Toya Armani is there a huge difference between the two?
Arieal X Taylor says
I’m sorry but for any Black woman to say ” natural isnt for everyone” is part of the problem in society. If we didn’t have relaxers what would you do??. It’s actually sad that you can know how damaging to your health the crap is an still do it…I don’t wanna get into a debate about it honestly. Its just the truth forreal period.
Kerimah Rogers says
If we didn’t have relaxers we would flat iron and/or do something else, or just learn to live with it.
Blaque Diamondz says
Fros are not for everyone some look a mess
Arieal X Taylor says
*manage
Stacia M Jemison says
She’s right, what would yo do if there weren’t any relaxers l, etc?
Chiquita Walker Williams says
Going natural is definitely not for me. But if natural is your thing, then kudos. Did God make a mistake? Of course not! But he also equipped someone with the knowledge to invent perms. Was God wrong for that? People are taking this Natural vs Perm way too serious. Do what works for you. I support both…
Sagittarius Felisha says
If applied correctly is doesn’t negatively affect you health. If applied directly to the scalp without a barrier Vaseline on the scalp and if over processed then yeah maybe
Sagittarius Felisha says
I have naturally wavy hair fine hair but get a relaxer 3 times a year because my hair is too thick. But some of yall have nappy kunta kinta hair and refuse to get a perm…not a good look….
Kim Mosley says
I’m natural, but when someone says “natural isn’t for me” that just mean they don’t have the time to be able to take care of natural hair as it should be. Not to mention, it can be VERY time consuming and expensive as far as buying natural products. Everybody’s hair is different, whether relaxed or natural. One isn’t better than the other. I have seen people who have relaxed hair who actually have long, healthy hair. My cousin is one of them. I don’t see how naturals can put people who choose to relax down because they choose to wear their hair different from them.
Diona Denise Stampley says
Wow, “nappy kunta kinta and refuse to get a perm” it’s not a good look?? Honestly, that’s a shame, sounds like some self hate type of s**t, having nappy hair is not a good look? Damn, sorry that this is the hair that we were born with.
Dee Dee Martin says
It doesn’t matter if you put a relaxer in your hair or not who cares.
Arieal X Taylor says
Well some people care enough to keep commenting on my personal comment smh
Chevy Genous says
I agree Arieal. Besides, you can wear straight hair without getting a relaxer. Relaxers are bad for you period.
Arieal X Taylor says
Yes indeed. No chemicals of death needed lmbo
Chanelle-Lize Antoinette Marshall says
People who don’t like debates are people who are uncomfortable with the idea that their opinion might not be the truth.
Also, personal comments are for diaries and private messages, not public comments.
Shana Smith says
Because it’s her hair and she wants to relax it. She is not her hair.
Shana Smith says
My hair is relaxed and it’s way more healthier than some women that I know, that are natural. And it grows extremely fast. I can’t say that natural isn’t for me because I have never tried it. I love natural hair on other people though. Love luscious fros and coils. We are not our hair though. As black women we put so much emphasis and energy in hair.
Pattie Armstead says
Agree! Most naturals in my area their hair does not look good at all…dry/tangled.
Rivian Jones says
You’re right!
Sagittarius Felisha says
Yes, totally agree……
Pattie Armstead says
She shouldn’t have to explain to anyone. Her hair/her choice.
Tywana Beaver says
She has a YouTube channel with 12K subscribers. I think that’s WHY she chose to explain.
Pattie Armstead says
Well she need to get ready for the backlash from the natural hair community.
Tywana Beaver says
Nooooo … I loved her natural hair videos.
Lakisha Shears says
Whaaaaattttf
Tashone Black says
The thing about hair is you have to be ready for what ever style, chemical, or natural!!! You have to know your environment, you job situation, even if your in schools, activities, universities and so on. You have to be ready for you style!!! You can’t just always wing it when your not happy with the overall style look and so on. So no matter what you have to love it relaxed or natural!!! You have to know what you want and what you can handle!!!
Jordann Alease says
her videos were so informative
Latisha White says
fibroid tumors…REBUKED!
Serena Chrissette says
I have enjoyed your hair tutorials. Your hair, be happy.
Jodestynetiah AngellEyez Marceille says
She’s too pretty to me
LaShaun Whichard says
Black women are the most judgmental, holier than thou women out here it amazes me. Why is it a problem that HER hair is permed it’s not yours? Also please stop with the it causes cancer thing, so does the food you eat. Do you really know how not to feed cancer cells? Do you even know what they are? Just because her cup is half full and your cup is half empty that doesn’t mean you’re any better. So unless you can honestly say you are 100% natural in ALL that you do instead one minuscule aspect of life, SHUT UP! Worry about yourself, stop worrying about other people all of the time, smh.
Kerimah Rogers says
Thank you LaShaun
Kerimah Rogers says
Can I like your comment 1,000,000 times?!?!?!?!
LaShaun Whichard says
It annoys me. I absolutely can’t stand it.
Kimberly Dooley says
girl you said that!! if people put half the time improving on themselves that they did downing other people this world would be a much better place!!
Taheera Naturallyme Muhammad says
I wouldn’t say natural hair is for not everyone. I think it can be realy frustrating and time consuming. I have been natural for 4 years with 3 big chops due to not really knowing how to take care of my hair and doing hairstyles that damaged my hair. I would never go back to relaxers, I think natural is learning your hair, especially when all you know is relaxers, but my hair hasn’t been this healthy or could grow back as it does without chemicals. I think as black women we have so many products claiming they are for natural hair, but we need products for manageability. I have type 4 hair and it is a process. Also there is so much info about how to grow hair, but not much about length retention and healthy hair practices. I think most of the time the naturals on youtuve are guessing, I did my own research on healthy hair care practices and my hair is growing in without any isues this time. But good for her shoot. Whatever rocks her boat.
Taheera Naturallyme Muhammad says
Yes ma’am , I definitely understand where you are coming from sis, a couple of times I considered going back to relaxers but I know they do nothing for my hair but break it down and break it off, and my hair is stronger and healthier natural. But I don’t do much with my hair I keep it braided up not with weave. And I wear my scarf everyday so it is covered up, but I tried putting weave in my natural hair and it was a disaster but you know you and your daughter could go to a hair stylist who could have helped you all understand your hair. Personally I don’t know why women rely on YouTube which most don’t have a cosmetology license, but hey to each their own.
Taheera Naturallyme Muhammad says
I just wish we had products that really helped keep our healthier and make it more manageable to maintain.
Deloach Rena says
Natural hair doesn’t look right on everybody!!!! Ijs!
Deloach Rena says
Yessss! Especially the ones i see! Lmao
Smile Seven says
Wtf^^^
Smile Seven says
We’ve been so conditioned to believe that our hair MUST be straight and long to be beautiful. I am no where near a hair nazi, but some of you women sound like loyal slaves scared to leave the plantation.
Arieal X Taylor says
Ooooh I love you!!
Nataucha Gray says
Haha true
Smile Seven says
This should not be an issue. Her hair, her right. btw, it’s relaxer not perm.
Natasha Hector Richardson says
I’ve reached that point and ordered my phytospecific relaxer index 1 today, very excited to end the struggle 🙂
Theresa Padmore says
Oh my gosh. I remember starting out with her. Whatever floats your boat beautiful. All the best.
Priscilla Asare says
I really love my natural hair, am a 4c and have been natural for 15months and I enjoy doing my hair myself and my girls hair, our hair is healthy and it’s a best decision ever made
Terri Poindexter Patterson says
Some of these “natural” bloggers are phoney. I’ve seen many call themselves natural and show nothing but disdain for their hair in its natural state. Seems like a game to me-get enough clicks to get an endorsement from a hair products company. Grow your natural hair to have long hair for a relaxer, try to explain your position. They’re full of it.
Jonet Boreland says
It took me awhile b4 I could actually click on this.. everybody have a choice but honestly I’m disappointed, I didn’t see this coming from her.. I would Definitely rather spend a day detangling than fry my hair… all the best and i hope u come back soon..
Kamilah Stapleton says
I understand I went back and forth. My hair is still natural after cutting it off again last year.
Endenezjia Graham says
It’s her hair and her decision.
Anjanette Anthony says
Because it’s HER hair and she can do whatev with it that she pleases!!!
Rivian Jones says
I would not have explained anything! Today I sat in the mirror 35 min trying to achieve a sleek ponytail. When I had a perm a ponytail took 5 min smh. Natural hair is not a great choice for everyone. I don’t like spending more then a hour on hair wether it’s permed or naturl and if I do it better be layed. I can’t wait to see my stylist so I can go back to when my hair days were so simple lol.
Unique Burke says
How the hell Danielle Thompson gonnna say natural hair isnt for everyone ..lol..so how where u born. ..with a perm??? How bout u just say some women are not confident enough in their beauty to wear their hair in it’s natural state…and its not only their fault for this thinking. .its the fact that it has been engrained in us that Our hair is not beautiful
Eilyon Dye says
No need to explain…it’s your hair.
Charlene Cha LaBranche says
When ppl say adding chemicals is bad! Shampoo, conditioner, etc is all chemicals unless you washing your hair w berries and fruits stop it
Chevy Genous says
They do have natural shampoos and conditioners you know, with no chemicals.
Charlene Cha LaBranche says
Everything is made w some type of chemical Chevy Genous I own “natural” products but that’s what they say
Alana Duncan says
I feel this natural vs relaxer is just another way to keep us black women divided. Do what you want to your own hair. The debate doesn’t even matter because you are not your hair.
Charlene Cha LaBranche says
I’m flat ironing my hair now first time in3 years honestly I think I’m going back to perms maybe
Joycelyn Lanae says
What is that hair type? If you’re walking around here with dry hair then you may want to do more research. Everyone that went natural had that problem trust me. If you don’t like your hair type if thats the issue then just say it and perm it if thats what make you happy
Sagittarius Felisha says
There are women with naturally fine, curly wavy hair that get relaxers and then there are those with kinky hair like kunta kinta that won’t touch a relaxer, but should. I get one every 4 months because I cant take the thickness and I have naturally wavy hair….
Niya Owens says
This video could’ve been very short.. “Bc i very well wanted to,its MY hair”. Went do we have to explain why we do what WE want to OUR hair.smh
Sagittarius Felisha says
Crazy, black women won’t even work out because they are afraid of messing up their hair. Something is wrong people… who cares about who is natural or telaxed.
Arieal X Taylor says
Natural oils from the Earth are not chemicals Chile , you sound like a loyal slave bol I’m done . I can’t.
Sagittarius Felisha says
Who said that everyone use all natural. I guess shampoo is from the earth all chemicals…. Slave?… aren’t u crazy… Boo, my white dad side owned slaves probably some of your kinfolk. Now have several seats…
Rivian Jones says
Thank you! Main reason why they need to take a seat.
Chevy Genous says
Most natural women use natural ingredients on their hair and no chemicals. So you are wrong.
Sagittarius Felisha says
Most not all so u contradicted yourself so u are wrong…
Sagittarius Felisha says
Loyal slave, my white dad ancestors owned slaves probably your kinfolk.. now take a seat…
Flawless Shaunie says
It looks worst permed.
Robyn Willis-Baldie says
I pray that I never get to the point where I give up. I’m not anti-relaxer, I’m pro-natural. You gotta do you! If you like relaxers, get them. My goal was to see what my natural hair could do. I did the big chop and followed what every naturlista said to do. (big mistake) What I didn’t like was all the product$$$$. Now, the only ingredients that touch my hair is water and clay, every 3 days. Lola Cherry (yogurt, amino acids and baking soda) every couple of weeks. That’s it! No shampoo or conditioner. My hair is literally curling up like I have a texturizer. I don’t get it, but it does. Moral: When I stopped putting tons of products/chemicals in my hair, my hair showed me what it needed. I fell in love with my hair!
Shanetta Oliver says
I relaxed my hair after two years being natural. I have very thick hair and it just took too much time on wash day. If you want to be natural, embrace it, but don’t hate on those who choose to relax.
Tiff Marie says
I agree with her since i’ve been natural its harder to retain length due to constant split ends
Anna Ogonji Smith says
Hasn’t she did this before? I might be confusing her with some of the other natural YouTube stars though. I don’t care what she does with her hair, but it’s funny being natural and making videos is what made her famous. Any of her followers going to relaxers? I’m curious.
Dameshia Doyle says
As the director of the cosmetology school that I graduated from would say “Honey, It’s only hair!!!” looks marvelous darling!
Frances Rhodes says
I was natural for 2 years .it was time consuming to wash ,deep condition braid and style my hair. Plus my stylist made me pay 80 dollars to do a silk press because my hair is so thick and long. If I went a week with out a deep conditioning my hair got so dry. I couldn’t put in heavy products because I needed to wash before a new style. I just put a relaxer in . I left it on for a few min . it did not straighten my hair but it did help make it more managing. So I guess I’m back to relaxing my hair twice a year.
Gladiola Ricola says
Am I the only one that feels like my hair gets easier to manage and detangle as it grows longer?
Jazmin Smith says
Was my favorite YouTube naturalist. Welllll moving along
Jalaya Wallace says
My hair is so thick and so hard to comb out and I spend way to much time and money on my hair and I honestly hate it because I don’t know how to do my hair. I feel like giving up . people always say it’s easy to take care of natural hair def not mine I rather wear wigs
Katina Todd says
What’s the big deal?
Lachelle Lala Francis says
Oh
Tsebo Kobbina says
I am also considering at least with relaxer the hair grows my hair had been stagnant and knots are my biggest nightmare
Arianne Robinson says
i miss those days
especially picking those scabs or counting how many i recieved
Jeanette Allison says
She is too cute
Janissa Bido says
People it’s hair,so what if it’s permed or not i mean whatever works better for you,I know I get sick and tired of mines too but I may get locks after till I get bored and chop chop lol, hair is to have fun and do different things.
Lamaara Bhat Yisrael says
Some dont care and others are offended by the fact that she was very encouraging and resourceful and done hit the relaxed switch on them lolol I understand. Im locN so whatever but, the mainstream puts a big pressure to natural, less makeup, maintenance, means less attractive to the world so by embracing or accepting then a sister go right around and straighten her identity she has set a few women in doubt, back. Not only that, because of the women who followed, shared, and made her popular, she has a lil celeb status lololol it’s elementary my sweets lol. She’s a TRAITOR lololol naw im kidding, kinda
Pepita Magadza says
I had dreadlocks from 2001 to 2013 because I have a sensitive scalp & when I started I couldn’t find a relaxer that didn’t burn me. By 2013 I had waist length hair & was fed up of the same hairstyle after all those years, the only exciting thing I could was color. 2013 the whole natural hair fashion was gathering storm. I call it fashion coz the majority of women just follow. Same people that used to laugh at my locks joined the natural hair bandwagon & now condemned me. I discovered Mizani didn’t burn my scalp, I relax twice a year and can leave my hair out have braids, weaves & all sorts of fun exciting thing and my hair is already practically bra strap length. I am happy & will keep doing what I want rather than just following the latest trend.
Pepita Magadza says
I forgot to mention that having the dreadlocks thinned out my hair especially the front where I used to twist it more often for it to look neat. I wish someone had warned me before & I don’t know how long it will take to recover.
Tanieka Henry-Brown says
I don’t knock anyone for how they choose to wear their hair my only thing is be mindful of the image you are showing to your daughters
Kali Mahogany Price says
I am just going to post what this page is about.
So while natural women debate with relaxed women about how and individual who exercises free will should or should not wear HER own hair. Let me remind you this is not just a natural hair page.

Drina Phil says
In a way this gives natural women to have an excuse to go back to the real brainwashed reason. I believe if we were never introduced to relaxers we all would be trained to handle it and maybe even a lot easier. We really need to look back into why relaxers were made in the first place…. To fit in. I mean I’m not knocking her choice but now I see so many comments on people wanting to be relaxers again.
I think there is a lot of love that you need to give to your hair in order to care for it correctly and her reason may be a bit of excuse but I mean not everyone knows how to care and love for it in its natural state.
Let my opinion be my opinion and I will agree to disagree
Lotus Day says
The issue surrounding hair should be centered on love and acceptance of a sisters choices regardless of personal preference- as adults and critical thinkers we should move past division … We no longer have the luxury to continue bickering … We are Beautiful as we are and beautiful if we decide to “adjust” ourselves
Ladye Eden says
I mean I’m not in my hair all the time so if you’re growing it for the sake of length then you can stay natural
If you’re not then it’s probably going to break a lot so I see why she did it but now still she has to deal with flat ironing and edge control and touch ups every two months and moose because she can’t free lance like you do with natural hair for a lot of things so except for washing
I don’t see what the benefit of this was except for 1/4 of an inch length retain….
I’m not mad at her lol she’s not killing anyone I just don’t see it
Missy NeedzAvacay Williams says
I’ve been natural almost 6 years and my hair is past bra length…. im not going back to perms…. all that hard work will not b in vain, i learned to live with what genes gave me…. this young lady was only natural for only 2 years and she quit, and now selling hair weave?… i feel she did this to help her new businesses…. ijs… coincidence?
Theresa Boyd says
It’s her hair… not yours.I’am natural, but I realized it isn’t for everyone.
Ernestine Teenie Jennings says
I just dont understand some ppl. If you wanna perm your natural hair then do so and if you want to stay natural then do so. Who I’m to say ??? Do you. I <3 being natural, but whatever way you choose to wear your hair is your business...You rock your hair however you want to and don't think you have to explain it to anyone...U Rock !!!
Kasher Minott says
Good for hair it’s hers to do what she want with as long as it and her are healthy it’s her business I think it’s really sad considering how beautiful and interesting black hair is can we not just respect everyone’s choices without making shady comments fact or not it’s rude and uncalled for in my book
Dee Dee Martin says
I understand why people get relaxers. Sometimes I want one but people do it too much and that’s what’s damaging.
Sherry VanHorn says
Not everyone wants to be on the natural hair bandwagon……..there are lots of women with beautiful healthy relax hair because they go to the salon and have it professionally done. They don’t do it themselves with box at home kits which messes up the hair especially if you are not a professional. Also sodium hydroxide is in your food lotions and cosmetics. You have more of a chance of getting cancer by using baby powder(talc) and baby oil and than a relaxer. Also when you color your so call natural hair it becomes unnatural and chemically altered.
La'Donna Seamster says
Ok
Marisa Gonzales says
When u TRULY love and appreciate ur natural hair (no matter the type) u won’t find urself looking for excuses to go back to the white crack! I’m reading some persons complaints of having to detangle and the time it takes to do so -_- #Really All u need is a big teeth comb, a little patience and a wet head of hair…..how hard is that? It takes me 30 mins tops
Rivian Jones says
30 mins is too long for alot of ppl also water don’t work for everybody.
Chevy Genous says
Water works for any natural hair. Our hair needs moisture.
Ebony Rose says
“Natural hair isn’t for everyone”. Does anyone else notice this stupid comment? Lol smh.
Keshia Scott says
Highly irritating woman!
Shaunda Estes says
I’m a professional stylist and I believe the problem is we have all become accustomed to relaxing our hair and then decide oh I wanna be natural and then don’t really know how to successfully maintain natural hair because you want to do it yourself. They have plenty of hair stylist who can aid in helping you maintain a healthy head of natural hair and you DO NOT have to chop ALL your hair off to go natural,I hate that!! I went natural for 3 years never chopped all my hair off with some of my clients as well and maintained a beautiful healthy head of hair. It is possible, stop trying to do it yourself if you don’t know what you are doing, that’s what I see the major issue at hand. Find a natural hairstylist to maintain your hair. The hair industry is going down because women going natural& trying to do it themselves .
Joanna Briley says
Isn’t she the tutorial girl?
Chrissy says
Its her hair and she do as she please, her hair is still beautiful either way.
Whitney Zinabu Jocelle says
Why put her black hair against a black background
Charmaine Elliott says
She can do whatever she desires, no explanation needed. It’s her hair.
Jai Bacote says
That’s correct however she has a youtube channel that is about hair and it’s not only good business but, it is helpful and polite to share why she made such a change. Ppl like to shame others for switching to natural or switching to relaxed especially if you have a hair channel.
Saprila Mclean says
Nice
Jessica Best says
With natural hair, she is more of a stunning beauty .
Dina Fagan says
Not true some people don’t even have hair and are beautiful
Linique Valery says
Who?
Théo Ga says
I don’t understand why girls need to justify themselve about what they do with their hair!! Go girls!! You are not your hair and lives are not depending
Jai Trineice says
So are we bout to hear how she inspired other naturals to relax their hair because of HER experience with a “faster” growth of hair?
Vonnie Willis says
I dnt understand why this is an issue….
Margaret Marie Frank says
It’s looks great black women doesn’t. Have to walk around here with nappy hair..
Hazel Non Ya says
Hair nappy?? You’re one out of touch black woman! If you didn’t know that’s the way it grows out your scalp! Stop white washing yourself.
Charmaine Young says
I wouldn’t be explaining anything!
Shaina Taurus says
we lost a soldier . Come on black beauties we cant loose the war united we stand divided we fall
Sandra Robinson says
i learn how to weave my hair by watching her do it on youtube she is a great teacher, thank you Breanna Rutter
